Winter to Spring Fashion

It is hot outside! It is February and it is 80 degrees outside; that is not natural. However, that is what living in the south, more specifically South Carolina, gets you. This is the awkward time of the year where it is freezing outside in the morning, but by the afternoon it is burning up. Like I said before, it is February and we are already at that awkward stage. I do not typically experience this weather until about March, so hopefully (fingers crossed!) it stays this way through spring break because I do not want to be wearing sweaters. Anyway, this brings me to what I am going to be talking about. I am going to be telling you how you can transition your wardrobe from winter to spring smoothly.

1.      Pops of Color

This is the easiest way to transition from one season to another. Pairing a basic outfit, like one that is all-black or a simple white shirt with jeans, with some colorful shoes is always a classic way to go. Another easy, but brilliant way to go is matching your ensemble with bold statement jewelry. My personal favorites are tassel earrings that seem to have made a rise of popularity over the past year, and big, chunky necklaces with lots of layers.

2.      Layering

When it is cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon, layering is your best friend. You can wear a nice short sleeve shirt, topped off with a cardigan is the most basic way to go, but if you really want to kick it up a bit, jean jackets are the best. They are so versatile and come in an assortment of designs, patterns, and prints; I have even seen them with fringe before. You can also make this work-friendly by putting on a blazer for a more sophisticated look.

3.      Plaid Shirts

There is not much to be said about this, other than they just work in the spring. (Just do not go for the full-on flannel; it is too hot for that!) Plaid shirts come in many colors and help make any outfit look cool and casual. Wear a graphic tee under one and tie it around your waist when it starts to warm up.

4.      Midi Dresses

Midi dresses are great because you can show some leg without being too cold. They hit mid-calf and have infinite shoe possibilities. You can pair them with booties, flats, wedges, sandals, whatever, and your outfit will be bomb no matter what. (Now, I know they make pants, called culottes, that hit mid-calf too, but I do not think they are the prettiest things in the world. If that is your style, go for it, but I am just going to stick with midi dresses.)

5.      Cut Out Shoes

It would just be wrong of me to not include shoes in this post, so here they are. The best shoes for transitioning from winter to spring are ones with cutouts. I am talking about the cute little mules that do not have a back of the shoe and I am talking about peep-toe booties. These shoes reign supreme no matter what season it is because you can wear them in all seasons. I can not tell you how many times peep-toe booties have saved my outfit. Once you try mules or peep-toe booties, you can not go back; they are the absolute best.

That is all for today. I hope these tips help you plan your outfits for the awkward weather ahead. I am going to be dreaming of summer until it is over.

See you next time,
Griffith
